Urban Ocean: Data to Action

Bangkok, Salvador, and Santa Fe are proving that waste isn’t just a challenge—it’s an opportunity to build climate resilience, strengthen livelihoods and drive circular innovation. All three cities were a part of Urban Ocean Cohort three, and all partook in the Circularity Informatics Lab’s Circularity Assessment Protocol (CAP) as part of their endeavor to build resilient, circular economies. Using CAP data, the cities plan to do the following:

🌱 Bangkok is mobilizing canal communities to lead waste separation, launch waste banks, and protect urban waterways.

♻️ Salvador is partnering with waste picker cooperatives to boost recycling, formalize livelihoods, and build a more inclusive circular economy.

🔄 Santa Fe is establishing a plastics reprocessing plant to give new life to PET, HDPE, and PP waste, transforming it into new products through low-cost, high-impact mechanical recycling.

The new #UrbanOcean City Waste Management Profiles and Project Statements, co-developed with SOLOS, Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias Hídricas (Universidad Nacional del Litoral), and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), offer a clear roadmap for action, grounded in local priorities and global potential.

These are more than pilots. Each city is building a compelling case for deeper investment in circular, inclusive and climate-smart solutions.
